Helping the Vets

Since 2022 CFES Economists have worked with POVAT Team Members in calculating the economic benefit of an increased disability rating for disabled service members with the Department of Veterans Affairs.  CFES Economists donate their time to assist Project OVAT with the representation and advocacy of service members who based upon their service related disabilities seek to increase their disability rating which would entitle them to possibly increased monthly benefits, lifetime health benefits, and potential tax benefits.  Based upon our research and as discussed in the Fall 2023 Journal of The American College of Trial Lawyers, the average life economic benefit increase to a disabled service member through the POVAT program  is $491,918.

Here’s a recent article about the Center’s work with POVAT
